On May 29, 2006 the community reacted with shock and horror to the deaths of Ashley and Stephanie Daubs who were killed when their father, in a double homicide/suicide, drove into the path of an oncoming dump truck. Ashley, age 15 and her younger sister Stephanie, age 12 were known as bright, beautiful, friendly, and athletic young girls who loved to play basketball.
The London Abused Women's Centre (LAWC), along with Gold Medal Basketball, have chosen to turn this atrocity into positive action. With the support of the girls' mother, Debbie Ratelle, our two organizations host an annual memorial 3-on-3 basketball tournament. The purpose of the memorial tournament is to honour the lives of Ashley and Stephanie. We also hope to bring families and children of all ages together for a weekend filled with fun, reflection and family time while raising funds for the agency. |
